Woodruff Named RRAC Pitcher of the Week

WACO, Texas -- Kym Barthel of LSU Shreveport was selected as Red River Athletic Conference Baseball Player of the Week for Feb. 13-19, while Clayton Woodruff of Northwood grabbed the RRAC Pitcher of the Week award for the same dates.

Barthel, a freshman second baseman from Lethbridge, Alb., went 5-for-7 at the plate as the sixth-ranked Pilots swept a double-header against Wiley College (Texas). He was 3-for-3 in the opener with two RBIs as LSUS won, 6-2. Barthel also had a pair of hits and an RBI to contribute to a 6-3 win in the second game. He scored two runs and drove in three for the week as the Pilots remained unbeaten at 2-0 in the RRAC and 8-0 on the season.


Woodruff, a freshman pitcher from Prosper, Texas, tossed five shutout innings to claim the 10-6 win over TXC. He allowed just two hits with a pair of strikeouts and two walks. Zach Cordia of the University of Texas-Brownsville, Josh Cappello of the University of the Southwest (N.M.), Garland Norton of Bacone College (Okla.), and Alex Padilla of Texas Wesleyan University were also nominated for player of the week. Additional pitcher of the week nominees included Micky Bullard of Bacone, Marcos DeLeon of UTB, Jared Mortensen of LSUS, Patrick Stanley of TWU, and Ernie Torres of USW.
